In the Bible we are taught to give and help others. And not to turn our backs on those less fortunate.

Once a mother's son
like everyone
he was a mother's son
but long gone are the days of suckled harmony
when he was with her, protected from the blasphemy
of a world that turns its back on the sight and scent
of a poor soul whose life was haplessly spent
without the treasured trails and breathing dreams
that the clever and cleansed count among their schemes
on a sun baked curb or under a bench
he cannot escape the stench
of his daily trials
or the missing smiles
of those who blindly pass him by
but live under the same indifferent sky
now he sups with the birds in sight
and watches them take flawless flight
to plundered places he will never go
and above the clever and cleansed he will never know
so while the masses turn their backs on the one
he still has a place in the sun
where his back can be turned as well
to a poster that exhorts the spell
of prideful women in skin tight jeans
and all the shallow poster means
to those who forgot
he was once, like they,
a Mothers son.
